Don't accuse my innocent members of staff - Bob Collymore warns politicians

Mr Odinga earlier accused Safaricom of colluding with IEBC to 'steal Kenyan democracy'.

Mr Collymore has said that he will be filing private suits against those making false accusations of the company’s staff earlier named by Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Mr Odinga accused the six staff members of abetting and conspiring with IEBC officials to bungle the August 8 general elections.

"These utterances are callous and reckless, considering they are just baseless allegations putting people's lives at risk. I will hold those accusers personally responsible if any harm meets my staff," Mr Collymore said.

He added: "Those who want to accuse must engage me because I am the leader of the team. Don't accuse my innocent members of staff. I reiterate these comments are unfair and unjust...let them fight their political agenda instead of dragging us into their woes."

Mr Collymore, who spoke on the sidelines of the launch of M-Pesa One Tap, divulged that the telecom is still reeling with huge expenses incurred during the election period, and that politicians should stop attacking the company, and representing it in bad light.

"IEBC needs us to transmit the results because they cannot be transmitted by magic," Mr Collymore told journalists on Tuesday.

He added: “Some of us have lost billions of money and IEBC is yet to pay. We come here to offer services in good faith and goodwill because yes, IEBC needs us. Dragging us into political drama is so immature and I am so angry about this."

He noted he does not intend to take any legal action against the accusers but vowed to put them to task if any of his staff members encounters danger.

Last week, Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga dragged Kenya’s leading telecommunication company into what is seemingly a conspiracy to defraud Kenyans of the democratic right.

Mr Odinga who spoke during a press conference in Nairobi on Tuesday last week, said that the Bob Collymore led firm conspired with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) staff to bugle the August 8 elections, leading to the nullification by the Supreme Court.

He accused Safaricom of working in cahoots with IEBC, Al Ghurair, OT Morpho and Safran in a conspiracy against him to deny him victory in the polls.

He said Safaricom along with the other companies cannot be trusted to deliver the repeat elections scheduled for October 26.

He later on Wednesday called for the boycott of companies and products including mobile communications service provider Safaricom.

During a press conference at the Okoa Kenya offices in Lavington, Odinga claimed Safaricom was part of those who "sabotaged" his win during the August 8 polls.
