Uhuru's team changes strategy after IEBC's announcement

Will you give Uhuru Kenyatta a gift on his birthday?

On Thursday, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced a major change for the Election Day, moving it from the earlier tentative 17th October date to 26th October 2017.

In the new twist, the Uhuru Kenyatta campaign team is now leveraging on Mr Kenyatta’s birthday to deliver the message of his reelection, terming it a birthday gift to Mr Kenyatta. Mr Kenyatta will be turning 56 on October 26th.

“Will you give Uhuru a Birthday Gift? Confirm with a YES!” Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko wrote on his Facebook account hours after the IEBC set October 26th as the new date for the repeat polls.

Meanwhile, the Jubilee party has announced major changes in its Mummers’ of Parliament campaign steering committee ahead of the polls.

Delegation meetings

In the recent past, however, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have been holding series of meetings with different regional leaders in the effort to mop up support ahead of the repeat polls.

On Thursday, Mr Kenyatta convened over 5,000 North Eastern leaders at Nairobi’s State House to chat on his reelection bid. Earlier in the week, Mr Kenyatta met with all elected MPs from the larger Mt Kenya region at Sagana State Lodge in Naivasha.

Bukusu, Kisii and Vihiga county leaders have also been meeting the same effort by both the President and Deputy President.
