President Trump replaces Godec as US Ambassador in Kenya

The new ambassador speaks fluent Swahili

US President Donald Trump has nominated a new Ambassador to represent his country in Kenya.

Trump on Wednesday picked Senator Kyle McCarter to replace the outgoing ambassador Bod Godec.

McCarter is currently a State Senator in the state of Illinois where former President Barack Obama also hailed from.

Trump noted that the nominated envoy has long historical ties with Kenya where he has worked as a humanitarian with various charity initiatives.

McCarter is also fluent in Swahili.

The Ambassador will resume his duties after being confirmed by the United States Senate.
