Sonko takes action after damning story on Sunday Nation

Sonko has responded after accusations of drinking alcohol in his office.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has responded to a story that ran on Sunday Nation titled, "The Madhouse that is Sonko's City Hall Office."

The story depicted City hall as dysfunctional due to the Governor's style of leadership which some sources mentioned was intimidating and poor.

Sonko spying on his workers

“Nobody is safe here, you never know when you will be fired, we are being monitored all over, we are under constant surveillance, there are CCTV cameras in our offices, our phones are tapped, there are spies all over us, whether in office or out there in the bar,” a top official in Sonko's administration disclosed.

The report on the local daily indicated that Sonko, who doesn't seem to trust anyone, uses his political allies to run affairs at City hall while sidelining his CECs and Chief officers.

What appeared baffling is when one of the sources at City hall disclosed that Sonko's day is punctuated with a glass of Cognac, his favorite alcohol drink which coincidentally raises his confidence levels.

Sonko asks his lawyer to seek legal redress over the Madhouse that is Sonko's City Hall Office

However, the Governor has now rubbished the claims stating that it was a good example of mediocrity journalism and an attempt  "to malign the character of an individual," before disclosing to the public that he had directed his lawyers to seek legal redress.

Sonko also indicated that he had not declined to receive any guests as portrayed by the story.

"I wish to state that it is not true that I refuse to see people who don't come to my office at 5AM; I receive Nairobi residents, dignitaries, leaders and guests throughout the day. Most days I am in the office until as late as 10PM, attending to Nairobians," Part of the statement read.

What seemed to irk Sonko more was the allegations that his days in the office are characterised by drinking alcohol during the day.

"I have instructed my lawyers to seek legal redress. The claim that I drink alcohol in meetings and throughout the day is an outright lie, and it will be upon the Sunday Nation to prove this in court," he adds.

Sonko says Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho wants to ruin his office

Sonko, who was elected on a Jubilee ticket, blamed his woes on Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, who he claims has been fighting him since 2017.

"This is all being orchestrated by a group of people engaged in high-level succession politics that I have talked about in the past, whose implementing lead person is Internal Security PS Karanja Kibicho.

"They have been celebrating the 'success' of the hatchet job together with their contact Editor at the Sunday Nation, but I will not be distracted from delivering services to the residents of Nairobi. They can spend as much money as they want to malign my name, but in the end the truth will prevail," the statement adds.
