Governor Mutua's sarcastic response to Sonko "running Nairobi" from Machakos

Sonko earlier this week held his cabinet meeting at his home in Mua Hills, Machakos.

Governor Alfred Mutua on Thursday poked fun at his Nairobi counterpart Mike Sonko for "running Nairobi County" from Machakos County.

Speaking during the last day at the Third Legislative Summit at Pride Inn in Mombasa, Mutua sarcastically welcomed Sonko for using Machakos to run Nairobi County.

“Where we are, we want to be able to work together in a stable country. It is good to see my county is being used by more than just myself to run a government,” Mutua remarked.

He also welcomed Members of the County Assembly from Nairobi to hold joint sessions with Machakos MCAs.

“I also want to welcome the Members of Nairobi and Machakos County Assemblies to come there and we hold some of our sessions together,” Mutua was quoted by Nairobi News.

Cabinet meetings

Sonko has been in the limelight after pictures emerged of the governor holding his cabinet meeting at his home in Mua Hills, Machakos County.

However, Sonko came out strongly to refute the claims that he was running City Hall affairs from the neighbouring county.

“I don’t know why people are claiming that Governor Mike Sonko is under ‘siege’. The City Governor has homes in several towns within Kenya; Garissa, Kisumu, Mombasa, Kilifi, Malindi, Machakos, Nairobi and many other places. Furthermore, he has a right to hold meetings in any of his homes. Therefore we should desist from making such utterances that depict Sonko is hiding," read a statement from City Hall.
