Wives of NASA leaders rise to the occasion as state agencies seize their husbands

First to be put to test was Irene Nzisa, wife to business Jimmy Wanjigi who is allied to NASA.

Following a raid by security agencies at their home, Nzisa stood by her husband against the allegations.

She posed for a photo as if protecting Wanjigi from bign take away from hr, giving rise to the famous Wanjigi challenge.

Mwende Gatabaki, wife to Economist David Ndii was put to task after police arrested and detained her husband allegedly due to his role in planning Raila Odinga’s ‘swearing in’.

Gatabaki came out guns blazing, blasting the state and fiercely defending her husband from all allegations and accusing Presidet Uhuru Kenyatta of targeting his family.

“My husband is not a criminal. My husband is not corrupt, he has never taken anything from public resources. He has not committed any crime that people know of,” she declared.

As expected, she rose to the occasion and was involved in frantic efforts to free her husband, coordinating with the Canadian High Commission in Nairobi.

Their struggles are reminiscent of the struggle for multi-party democracy when state agencies would harass, arrest, detain and even force opposition leaders into exile.

Among those familiar with the experience are Ida Odinga(Raila Odinga), Jane Nduta (Koigi Wamwere) Priscilla Murungi (Kiraitu Murungi) among many others.
