DP Ruto changes tact to stay ahead of the rest after Uhuru-Raila deal

Changes made by DP Ruto in light of Uhuru-Raila deal

As Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta got down to talk, the DP significantly toned down attacks on the opposition and began to advocate for unity. This was a calculated move to cut the image of a true statesman and win him support from opposition strongholds.

The DP is also taking advantage of the recent truce between Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta to court opposition legislators who were initially hostile to Jubilee.

On Saturday, Ruto received a warm welcome from the public and MPs allied to NASA at the Coast. Keen not to weaken the fragile union, the DP stayed away from politics and instead development projects featured prominently during his visit.

Ruto is also not taking chances with the Mount Kenya vote block. From holding political rallies in the region, the DP has now shifted to engaging directly with leaders and representatives from the region.

To this end, he has held a series of meetings with MPs from the region. Last Tuesday, Meru MPs were hosted at his Karen home with the DP set to tour the region soon.

The DP has also used financial resources at his disposal to endear himself to voters in the region, making contributions to harambees held by youth and women groups.

Development is likely to shape 2022 politics. Aware of this fact, the DP has been shuttling across the nation, launching projects that impact on people’s lives.

Sources privy to the details reveal that he is set to launch some projects that stalled and this will endear him to voters as a champion for development.
