Chinga Ward Representative Kiruga Thuku was the only politician who was able to keep up with the DP.

Some of the MPs as well as the Nyeri governor later joined the race toward the finish line to offer some moral support to the DP who had ran with his bodyguards and a few athletes.

The race was organized by teh county government under the leadership of the governor, to honour his predecessor who perished in a grisly road accident.

The organisers had initially hoped that the race would coincide with the official opening of a refurbished Ruring'u Stadium.

The project is said to have stalled due to lack of funds, however, DP Ruto promised that the national government would ensure it is completed.

"I commit [to this project] and assure the people of Nyeri that the stadium will be completed in the next year, alongside other stadia whose construction has been undertaken by the government," he assured.
