Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji on Friday approved a recommendation made by the EACC to prosecute Ugenya by-election candidate Chris Karan for forging a letter used in an election petition.
Setback for ODM candidate in Ugenya by-election after DPP's decision today
Breaking news
Haji made the announcement in a gazette notice dated April 5th, the same day that Karan will be seeking to regain his seat in the by-elections being conducted by the IEBC.
It is unlikely that the Haji's decision will change voter attitude as most of the voting had already taken place by the time the decision was made.
Karan was elected Ugenya MP in August 2017 but his win was successfully challenged in a petition filed by his closest challenge David Ochieng'.
During the election petition, Karan missed to file some case files saying he had been taken ill while in Mombasa.
He further presented a letter from Alfarooq Hospital in Mombasa, claiming he was admitted at the facility with fever and vomiting and was diagnosed with dengue fever.
The letter was later found to be fake and the court informed the EACC to go after the MP.
