Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko has lost his father, Mzee Tobiko Ole Paloshe.
In the past, CS Tobiko has conveyed that his father was a strong influence in building his career though Mzee Tobiko was himself illiterate.
"Whenever my father got word that I had sneaked out of school, he would take hold of me, drag me back to school and cane my bare bottoms in front of the entire school. The humiliation would work for some time," the CS stated during a past interview.

Uhuru's condolence message
President Uhuru Kenyatta was among the first to share his condolence message with the CS and his family.
"Mzee Ole Paloshe was a communal leader with great foresight, he knew how to predict the future and that is why he decided to educate all his children, boys and girls, at a time of little societal regard for education.
"Mzee Ole Paloshe was a strong pillar to his family and a respected member of his community. In this hour of sorrow, I convey my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his family, relatives and friends," the President wrote.
