Worrying details have emerged on a notorious city tout who is wanted over charges of assaulting passengers at Tea Room in Nairobi’s CBD.

Daily Nation reported its sources indicating that Felix Mwingirwa was under protection from senior police officers who rely on him to collect bribes from drivers and bar owners.

Police officers at the Central Police Station referred to him as untouchable, adding that the tout has never been arrested despite numerous complaints against him.

Mwingirwa’s case gained national prominence after a social media user published a photo of one of the tout’s victims who was assaulted and left for dead at the Meru-Nairobi stage at Tea Room.

Two witnesses who attempted to rescue the assaulted passenger were subsequently arrested by junior officers at Central Police Station.

Mwingirwa remained free until the National Police Service intervened to order his arrest.

He was charged, but denied the charges and was released on a Sh50,000 cash bail.
