Sonko offers Sh40,000 reward for video of harassed female hawker forced to climb on Kanjo vehicle with baby at Fire Station in Nairobi CBD

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has offered a Sh40,000 cash reward to anyone who can produce video footage of an incident that took place between a female hawker and county council officers.

Through his verified Facebook account, Governor Sonko has expressed concerns over how the lady was allegedly handled by his officers and is ready to punish those involved.

"I'm still disturbed by this case which we are still investigating for our necessary action and dismissal of the officers involved.

"I'm appealing to whoever has a video clip of how this poor woman was arrested and made to sit on top of this Kanjo van," the governor's post read in part.

According to the Governor, the officers who are assigned the vehicle in question claimed to have been away in their lunch break when the woman climbed on top of the car.

"The driver says the vehicle was parked near the fire station as officers went for lunch,when they came back they found the woman breastfeeding juu ya roof ya gari.

"I'm trying to establish huyu mama alipanda vipi juu ya gari ya kanjo kama alikuwa ananyonyesha na kama mtu ako na video please send to 0722886600/ 0722156700. Reward 40k," Governor Sonko's post explained.

The woman was booked at Central Police Station on Monday and unconfirmed reports indicated that she was still in holding at the time of the Governor's post.

A source who spoke to Pulselive.co.ke on the day of the incident reported that the woman had been roughed up and her wares were confiscated by the city officers.
