The Deputy Governor of Nyeri County Mutahi Kahiga has recounted his last words with the late Governor Wahome Gakuru before he met his death in a fatal road accident along the Kenol-Thika Highway.
Speaking at Lee Funeral Home, Kahiga revealed that he had advised Governor Gakuru to travel Tuesday night but the governor insisted the he was ready to travel in the morning.
“, I had requested him to kindly travel at night, telling him he did not have to travel very early in the morning. Unfortunately, he told me that he had made up his mind to travel Tuesday morning. I am at loss because he decided to do that” recounted Mutahi Kahiga.
He added that his working relationship with the late Governor was very strong, as he could not do anything without consulting with him.
“My working relationship with the governor was very cordial. There were no decisions he would make without consulting me. I have known him for quite some time now, given we grew up in close neighborhoods” added Mutahi Kahiga
The governor was slated to attend a Radio and TV interview on Inooro TV and Kameme FM on Tuesday Morning.
The governor’s personal assistant Albert Kaguru, Bodygurd Ahmed Abdi and driver Samuel Kinyanjui were transferred to Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi for advanced treatment.
According to Police the accident was caused by a tyre burst that led Gakuru’s Mercedes Benz to ram into the rail guard on the busy highway.
