Government sends 309 employees packing

An additional 104 ghost workers have been noticed in the audit.

The report, according to Mr Awiti, realised massive misuse of funds at the county, a move which saw county payroll manager Joseph Omondi suspended, alongside 308 others.

“The report realized serious misuse of funds in the county and cannot be entertained anymore. We’re sending them home to pave way for further investigations,” the governor said.

The report also revealed that the county government has been paying 104 ghost workers in the county. The county has been auditing its 640 staff members since January.

Shockingly, another bunch of 169 employees at the governor’s office lacked appointment letters to serve, yet they had their names on the payroll.

The county spends 45 per cent of its revenue on salaries as opposed to the required 35 per cent as stipulated in PFM Act.
