Chebukati makes final decision on Counties that failed to Vote

This comes after NASA supporters countrywide heeded their leader Raila Odinga’s call to boycott repeat elections.

Speaking during a Presser at Bomas of Kenya, Chebukati stated that IEBC will not extend the voting process in affected area beyond October 28, 2017.

“The law is very clear, if you look at section 55b of the Election Act, it says that where there is a natural factor preventing voting, or in case like what we have experienced today, issues that breach peace, the commission is under duty to give the voters a chance to exercise their rights and that is what we are doing,” Chebukati said.

The four affected counties where the election were postponed and rescheduled for Saturday are Migori, Siaya, Homa Bay and Kisumu, which are considered to be Nasa strongholds.

This comes after NASA supporters countrywide heeded their leader Raila Odinga’s call to boycott Thursday’s repeat presidential elections.

On Wednesday during a rally at Uhuru Park, the NASA leaders led by Odinga told their supporters to stay away from polling stations, reiterating his clarion call that 'there is no election today'.

Instead, Odinga appealed to their supporters to hold prayers away from voting centres or stay at home today and not participate in the 'sham repeat presidential election'.
