Chiloba has not been suspended - Chebukati

The IEBC Chairman also disclosed Chiloba continues to enjoy his full benefits and entitlements.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has revealed that the commissions CEO Ezra Chiloba has not been suspended contrary to media reports.

During a press conference on Friday evening, Chebukati refuted claims that Chiloba had been suspended but instead said he was on compulsory leave for three months pending investigations over the management of IEBC's resources.

"The ongoing audit is not an indictment against the CEO but an opportunity for the commissioned audit and established manner and propriety of management of public resources entrusted to the commission. From the onset, the commission reiterates that the matter at hand is squarely on an issue of financial audit and accountability as anchored in the law," Chebukati said.

He insisted that the law obligates all the commission members and employees to adhere to principals of good governance, integrity, transparency and accountability in the discharge of their mandate.

Rachel Ruto is no stranger to making bold yet elegant fashion statements, but during the state visit of the Dutch royals on March 18, 2025, it wasn’t just her outfit that stood out—it was her shoes. The Kenyan First Lady stepped out in a pair of brown suede block heels adorned with a gold emblem.

Chebukati at the same time disclosed that Chiloba continued to enjoy his full benefits and entitlements as he paves way for the audit.

"If found culpable by the audit he will be subjected to disciplinary proceedings in accordance to the commission’s human resource policy and the law," he added.

The IEBC Chair also dispelled the notion that three of the commissioners Vice-chairperson Connie Nkatha Maina and commissioners Margaret Mwachanya and Paul Kurgat had resigned.

"The commission has not formally been notified that the 3 commissioners have resigned, we only learnt of their resignation from the media. The claims by the commissioners who are reported to have resigned are misleading and have no legal basis," Chebukati insisted.

IEBC had earlier this week written to the Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet questioning the reasons for the withdrawal of security guards (including armed drivers) attached to the chairman Chebukati and commissioners Ayub Guliye and Boya Molu.

The withdrawal of the security detail of the IEBC Commissioners came days after half of its commissioners resigned.
