IEBC to make major changes ahead of elections

Mr Chebukati has issued a tough warning to some staff at the Commission.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati has spoken out following the recent announcement of the nullification of the Presidential Election results.

Speaking to the media on Friday September 1, Chebukati stated that the Commission intends to make internal changes to their personnel in preparation for the fresh elections to take place within 60 days.

"Somebody has to take responsibility for the errors," he said.

Chebukati further invited the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution to carry out investigations pertaining to any malpractice conducted during the presidential elections.

"Prosecute any of our staff that may have been involved in the violation of the election results."

He went on to say that the Commission intends to have a sit down either on Friday September 1 or Saturday September 2 to decide on the necessary changes to be made to the secretariat ahead of the next election.

"We urge the Supreme Court to issue us a full judgment so that we can know the areas of concern before we hold another election."
