Igathe will soon cancel his resignation and return to Sonko's team

Uhuru is reported to be heading mediation talks between the two

Nairobi County Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe last week surprised both friend and foe with his dramatic resignation.

He revealed that among the things that led to him resigning is lack of trust between him and Governor Mike Sonko.

The soft spoken business executive-turned-politician claimed that he had failed to earn the trust of Governor Mike Sonko to enable him serve the people of Nairobi as promised during campaigns.

Since the duo took office in August, their differences have been an open secret in the political circles.

In November, a local daily published inside details of the differences that were splitting the two bosses at City Hall.

In one of the most infantile responses by a Kenyan political leader, the Nairobi Governor shared a total of twenty two screenshots showing private communication with Igathe.

Sonko stated that the lengthy whatsapp conversations were meant to show his cordial working relationships with his deputy, but it also displayed a man who lacked decorum by betraying rather private information to the public.

It did not escape keen observers that Igathe was ever absent whenever his boss was calling.

Equally, it was apparent that Sonko suffered some kind of insecurities that forced him to make short and inadequate responses to the detailed information he was getting from his deputy.

The deputy governor, despite his political inexperience, knows that Sonko is dead incompetent and cannot manage to run City Hall.

In my opinion, his resignation was a negotiation gimmick to show the Nairobi governor that he still had leverage.

In public service, like in the finance world, resignation are usually enforced instantly. The fact that Igathe gave a two-week notice confirms to me that he is still very much interested in going back to City Hall.

Ultimately, the former blue chip CEO, will make a comeback and this time, his role as deputy governor will not involve replying to whatsapp messages with "your excellency" flattery - he will be the de facto governor!
