Jimi Wanjigi: My children were woken up with news of my death

Emotions run high

In a rare and emotional press appearance, Wanjigi stated that the incident had caused a lot of trauma to his children whom he claimed were woken up with news of their father's death.

"I must say, it was horrific what they did. It didn't hurt me as much as it did my family. I have children who go to school abroad and they were waken up by calls from all over being told that it looks like you father is dead," he stated.

The wealthy businessman stated that the obituary was a direct threat to his life, adding that it was not mistakenly placed on the country's largest newspaper.

Wanjigi was categorical that he did not trust the state to carry out credible investigations on the matters, challenging that more than 300 Kenyans have been killed by the police and no investigations were undertaken.

He spoke outside the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) where he had gone to present themselves for investigations over their role in NASA leader Raila Odinga's mock swearing in.

The DCI had earlier stated that they are not interested in investigating the NASA leader, and advised them not to turn up and their Kiambu road offices.

"The National Police Service wishes to state that neither Hassan Joho, Jimmy Wanjigi, David Ndii nor the 9 others who have sought anticipatory bail are being sought as of now in connection with commission of any crimes," the police stated.
