NASA Governor publicly shames Raila over swearing-in plan

Raila dropped his swearing-in fete after pressure from Western envoys and his wife Ida Odinga.

Mr Nanok who spoke at Moi Gardens grounds Lodwar in Turkana County on Tuesday during the celebrations to mark Kenya’s 54 independence anniversary, condemned Nasa leader Raila Odinga’s plan to have him sworn-in, even after Mr Odinga bowed to pressure to postpone the hyped event.

"Kenya has one President who was elected by Kenyans," Mr Nanok said, barbing at Raila’s swearing-in plan and pledged to fully work with the President to end suffering in the county.

The Council of Governors chairman, the only opposition leader who attended the inauguration ceremony of President Uhuru Kenyatta on November 28 at Kasarani, stroke a Jubilee tone adding that there shall be no other election, other than the 2022.

Meanwhile, Mr Nanok is set to lose one of the country’s influential post of the chair of the Council of Governors as the Jubilee wing arguably jostles up to have a Jubilee Governor in the post.

Early this year, Mr Nanok and Uhuru Kenyatta engaged in a public altercation over the allocation proceeds accrued from ongoing oil exploration by Tullow Oil Company in the area.

President Uhuru Kenyatta dared voters from Turkana County not to vote for him if they so wished.

“If you keep listening to none issues, you’ll be the losers, not me. We, like the others, will come asking for your votes, but whether or not you vote for us, will that be the end of the world?” President Kenyatta posed.

Mr Nanok had earlier on held a press conference at Capitol Hill in Nairobi, together with opposition leader Raila Odinga, where he said it was wrong for the president to scale down the sharing formula from 10 to five per cent for the people where the oil is.

He was once a supporter of the Opposition, and while under ODM in the August 8 general election, he garnered 73,232 votes against his main rival John Munyes of Jubilee who got 52,572 votes.
