A section of Jubilee party MPs have urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack Treasury CS Henry Rotich.

Patrick Munene (Chuka Igamba Ng’ombe ) and Eric Muchangi (Runyenjes) accused the CS of “presiding over poor monetary policies” during Kenya’s debt has reached unprecedented levels.

They further accused the CS for what they termed as an ‘economic crisis’ that has seen the government introduce tax on fuel and petroleum products.

The MPs who were speaking in Embu town vowed to introduce a motion seeking to impeach the CS during Tuesday’s special session of the National Assembly.

“Before Parliament went on recess, there was a bill to impeach Mr Rotich. He has been inefficient. As a leader, he knows that he has failed and he should step down,” Munene said.

He further accused the CS of ignoring the plight of Kenyans and instead being keen on implementing policies set by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

“If you look at the monetary policies he is bringing, you will see that the Treasury is being led by people whose loyalty lies with IMF.” he added.

Rotich attracted the wrath of MPs when he went ahead and rolled out a new 16% VAT  levy on fuel and petroleum products despite parliament voting to shelve it.
