Kibaki and Kalonzo shamed at Kenneth Matiba's funeral

Matiba's friend turns into a Julius Malema during funeral service

The dramatic moment, mirroring a similar one made by Julius Malema at Winnie Mandela's funeral, came from Matiba's long-time friend, Joe Kibe, who was tasked with reading the official eulogy.

After reading the eulogy, Kibe went ahead to make his remarks, making reference to Matiba's arrest in 1990.

He noted that after Matiba was arrested and detained, government-allied politicians had gone ahead to celebrate his detention and to disown him in a special motion introduced by then KANU MP Kalonzo Musyoka.

To the surprise of mourners, Kibe read out the names including Mwai Kibaki, Kalonzo Musyoka, and the late George Saitoti - which elicited a laud of applause from the mouners.

Others who were named include former Cabinet Ministers Nicholas Biwott, Joseph Kamotho, George Muhoho, and Zachary Onyonka.

Former MPs David Mwenje, Bonaya Godana, Bob Francis Jalang'o, Phillip Leakey, John Keen, Joash wa Mang'oli, and Francis ole Kaparo were also in the list of "shame".

“I would like to congratulate the very gallant act by members of the security forces in apprehending these people and safely keeping them far from us," Kalonzo had stated in reference to the detention of Matiba.
