Kalonzo's stern warning to Kenyans after Government summons Ngilu

Ngilu spent the better part of Monday morning grilled by government officials.

Wiper Party leader and NASA principal Kalonzo Musyoka has issued a stern warning to Kenyans after Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu was summoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).

NCIC had summoned Ngilu over her alleged incitement remarks where she is accused of asking locals to 'deal with pastoralists and charcoal dealers' who had invaded Kitui County.

Ngilu had earlier issued an order banning the export of charcoal from the county to other counties.

She called for a crackdown on anybody found burning or ferrying charcoal from Kitui to other counties saying that charcoal burning was killing the economy and destroying the environment.

After her grilling at the NCIC, Musyoka came to her defence absolving Ngilu from any wrong doing warning Kenyans to be prepared to have the country declared a desert if charcoal burning, sand harvesting and cutting down of trees is not banned.

"People must be held responsible. Right now the entire Kamba region is dry due to charcoal burning. If this is not controlled Kenya will be declared a desert,"Musyoka said.

Conservation

The Wiper leader said Kenya should deal with conserving water resources  and not prosecuting people trying to defend it.

"What happens if there is no rain? Is the Jubilee government ready to feed the citizens of this country? Imagine myself that the news war will be around water resources. So this are the issues we must deal with. We think that the NCIC should not be misused," the NASA principal added.

The government has already announced that it will spend Sh3.8 billion in its response to address drought between now and April.

Highway blocked

Just hours before Ngilu's grilling, a section of the busy Nairobi-Nakuru Highway was blocked by angry youth protesting the incident in Kitui County earlier this month where a lorry transporting charcoal was set ablaze allegedly on orders from Ngilu.

The youth blocked the major highway at Rironi area and deflated tyres for all trucks and cars claiming that their trucks were burnt in Kitui and they wanted compensation.
