A video has emerged of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waitu pleading with his Nairobi counterpart Mike Sonko to release his wife and 15 other people who were arrested on Wednesday morning.
The phone conversation between the two governors was recorded on Sonko's side and was later leaked on Twitter by blogger Abram Mutai.
Sonko then promises to "break the law" and ensure Waititu's wife is released.
"Order imetoka huko juu lakini ntavunja sheria nimwachilie," Sonko is recorded saying.
In a subsequent recording, Sonko calls a certain official and directs the release of the Kiambu County Lady.
Waititu's wife is also recorded insisting that she had sought the necessary approvals before the arrest.
