A top County director has claimed that his life is in danger, making him to flee Kenya.

After discovering that over Sh400 million might have been misused, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has requested a thorough audit of the county financial transactions.

In a rare letter to Auditor-General Edward Ouko dated August 28, Ms Waiguru cited glaring expenditures that which she said cannot be explained and bills amounting to more than Sh400 million that were paid during the last two months.

She said in the letter that her county Procurement Director flee the country claiming that his life was in danger.

She has divulged that cash amounting to Sh374 million out of Sh480 million that was released for construction of the county headquarters, has not been properly used as there is no constructive work that has been done.

“I wish to request a comprehensive special financial audit for the county,” she said in a letter to Dr Ouko.

She added:  “Most of the staff that were hired on a temporary basis were employed on permanent and pensionable terms a few weeks to the elections. This is very suspicious.”

“We have asked the Treasury to second another procurement officer,” said Ms Waiguru.

The latest move by Mrs Waiguru has received praises from her supporters. Waiguru trounced Mr Ndathi in the just concluded elections and becomes the first female governor of Kirinyaga County.
