12 ODM legislators sent home after historic ruling

The ruling was made on Thursday morning

Twelve legislators affiliated with ODM party have been sent home after a historic ruling by a Rongo court.

The twelve legislators had been nominated to serve as MCAs at the Migori County Assembly.

The court found that the orange party’s nomination list had offended the gender balance required under the constitution.

The presiding judge further directed ODM officials to come up with a new nominations list that would ensure that the two third gender rule was upheld.

At the same time, the Centre for Rights Education and Awareness (CREW) and the Community Advocacy and Awareness Trust (Crawn Trust) have an ongoing case regarding gender equality in the 12th parliament.
