ODM takes urgent action after several MPs declared support for DP Ruto

Raila takes urgent action to counter DP Ruto’s growing influence at the Coast

The party has responded by calling for an urgent “housekeeping retreat” in Mombasa planned for tomorrow where party is expected to delve into DP Ruto’s recent conquest at the Coast.

Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire disclosed that “We know there are other leaders who have clearly indicated that their interests are lying elsewhere and not in the party any longer. They are expected to explain their reasons of supporting the other outfit”.

The meeting which will be held at Pride Inn hotel will be chaired by Odinga and will also be attended by its national officials, governors, senators and MPs.

It is however not clear if rebel party MPs who have declared support for the DP and dared the party to take disciplinary measures will attend the retreat.

Of concern is that the Coast region that is traditionally an opposition turf is slipping out of Odinga’s grasp with some of his key allies warming up to the DP.

In recent days, close to 10 ODM Mps and governors from the region including Amason Kingi and Aisha Jumwa have expressed willingness to work with the DP and dared the party leadership.

“You cannot threaten an elected leader. I personally will not agree to be threatened because I am an iron lady.” Said Jumwa.

Odinga’s deputy Hassan Joho who has expressed interest in the 2022 race has found himself in a tight spot after some of his most trusted generals appeared to be courting his political rival DP Ruto.
