Tension following DP Ruto's meeting with Kalonzo's key ally

DP Ruto is seen to be building alliances with other leaders ahead of the 2022 elections.

The meeting came just hours after Kibwana threatened to leave the Wiper Party led by his close ally Kalonzo Musyoka sparking fears that the Governor might ditch the former Vice President and seek an alliance with DP Ruto.

Kibwana who is the Wiper chairman said the time had come for party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to "straighten out" the party’s internal affairs warning that the party could turn into a "staggering ship" ahead of the 2022 elections.

“I will meet Kalonzo and ask him why some people are not respecting us. Since we are seen as foreigners, let Kalonzo find another person for my position. I will, however, assist the Kamba community where possible," Prof Kibwana was quoted.

Divisive politics

“I’m tired of Wiper-nominated MCAs who feel they are the owners of Wiper and call me a thief. They think that by doing this, they are supporting Kalonzo. That is destruction,” he added.

The Governor accused some MPs and leaders from Ukambani in engaging in divisive politics and fueling chaos.

However, a section of Ukambani leaders appear to support Kibwana urging him to seek dialogue with other like-minded leaders for the sake of development.

Ukambani support

"We are confident the collaboration between national and county governments will ascertain success of the Big Four. Makueni County is making impressive strides in food security and water projects, including Thwake Dam that will ensure sustainable development and self sufficiency," Ruto said.

Kibwana is among the governors who have been lauded for their impressive performance since the onset of devolution.

“Prof Kibwana and Deputy President William Ruto are both politicians of long-standing. So those who are reading politics in the meeting of the two are not far off the mark. The Deputy President would be a natural person of interest to Wiper,” Kitui Senator Enock Wambua affirmed.

Wambua's Makueni Counterpart Mutula Kilonzo Jr urged Wiper leaders to move with speed to meet the Deputy President and other leaders.
