The office of the Deputy President is pushing to cement the Uhuru-Raila deal in Kenya’s history by through the introduction of a national handshake day.
Should the proposal sail through, a day will be set aide to encourage reconciliation and national healing among Kenyans affected by historical injustices.
The Office of the Deputy President Conflict Management and Peace Building Unit (CMPB) Secretary Beverly Koech divulged that multiple stakeholders and Kenyans expressed the need to adopt the handshake day across country right from individual counties, market places and schools.
“We will announce that anyone with a grudge with another person should come out and state the grievances, the clergies will then guide on how to let off go,” Koech said.
She was speaking during the launch of joint peace initiatives bringing together different counties Government ministries, County Government, Religious and Non-Governmental Organization.
The initiative will target conflict-prone arears where warrig factions will be assisted to launch income generating activities as a way of championing unity and peaceful coexistence.
Five counties of Migori,Kwale,Kilifi,Bungoma and Baringo have been selected for the initiative which will be rolled out to different regions.
The March 09 handshake saw political tension subside as leaders from across the political divide reached out to each other.
