According to the Sunday Standard, President Kenyatta made the phone call to Odinga about three weeks ago and set the stage for a closely guarded series of engagement between the two parties.
Four people were instrumental to the talks and kept it all proceedings secret until the two leaders made it public when they officially announced a truce.
Leading on the Jubilee side were Mama Ngina Kenyatta and Muhoho Kenyatta who were concerned about President Kenyatta’s legacy and which according to them could only be achieved in a united country.

A section of Jubilee leaders were routing for Kenyatta to approach Wiper Part leader Kalonzo Musyoka but he instead approached Raila Odinga owing to his critical role and influence across the nation.
A source also revealed to the local daily that President Kenyatta succumbed to pressure from his Jubilee camp, the international community and religious leaders.
As news of the deal swept across the nation, it was clear that other NASA principals had been caught napping as they responded in surprise, accusing Odinga of betrayal and confirming that they were not aware of the talks.
Also caught by surprise was DP William Ruto who media reports indicate became aware of the deal when it was at an advanced stage.
