Uhuru demands Raila pay his debt to Mumias Sugar Company after details emerge of his government's rescue plan for the sugar mill

Pay your debt to Mumias, Uhuru tells Raila

He was speaking at Bomani grounds in Mumias where he spoke about the measures his government has taken to revive the sugar industry there.

The Agriculture secretary Willy Bett had just released a statement that the Jubilee government has given Sh500 million to pay the sugar mill workers.

The president also said that Sh3.7 billion had been pumped into the companies in effort to revive it.

Kenyatta warned NASA leaders against claiming that his government was responsible for the companies collapse.

"NASA leaders should carry the blame for the financial constraints facing Mumias Sugar Company. Raila should be made aware that he owes the company some money and he must pay it," said the President.

He said that NASA leaders were at the helm of the company when it went under and should be held accountable.

He was also accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto who said, “Some leaders in NASA owe this company. They should pay their debts so that farmers can be paid. Farmers should be the top priority in payments.”

Ruto also stated that the government had injected Sh300 million into Nzoia Sugar Company.
