This is the second meeting to fail in a bid to unearth the issues bedeviling the Commission, after half of the Commissioners resigned on Monday citing lack of confidence in Chebukati’s leadership skills to lead the commission.
The Commission earlier cancelled the first meeting claiming that there were two by-elections; Ruguru and Kinondo wards in Nyeri and Kwale counties respectively.
“We were on our way to honor an invitation by Senate Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights for a meeting this morning when they called to call it off,” said IEBC on their Twitter handle.
The committee had summoned the IEBC boss to appear before the House team on Wednesday but sent an apology citing the Nyeri and Kwale wards by-elections. The remaining two commissioners Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu also failed to appear.
The cancellation also comes barely a day after the government reinstated the Commissioner’s security details.
The security detail of Mr Chebukati, and Commissioners Abdi Guliye, and Boyu Molu were on Tuesday withdrawn —a day after commissioners Consolata Nkatha, Paul Kurgat and Margaret Mwachanya resigned from the beleaguered electoral agency.
“There are all indications that the security that was withdrawn is being reinstated to the chairman, and affected commissioners,” IEBC communication manager Andrew Limo said earlier.
