Big win for Nyeri Governor, Sossion after latest court ruling

The Government had ordered the Trade Unionist officials to vacate office

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and nominated MP Wilson Sossion have been relieved after the latest ruling from the Labour Court.

The Labour Court has suspended the implementation of the gazette notice issued by Cabinetry Secretary Phylis Kandie against trade union officials who were elected into political offices.

This comes after KNUT secretary general and nominated MP Wilson Sossion among others moved to court challenging the legality of the said notice. Other union officials who have sued Kandie in regard to the gazette notice are Omboko Milemba and Tom Odege

Earlier on, Sossion together with 10 other trade unionists who were elected to various positions during the August 8 election had been asked to quit leadership positions in unions so that they can concentrate on politics.

Among the 10, was Nyeri Governor Mutahi kihiga who happens to be the Chairman of Nyeri KNUT branch.

Sossion was nominated to the National Assembly by ODM while Milemba was elected as Emuhaya MP in the August 8 election. Odege is also serving in Parliament as the MP for Nyatike.

Kandie gazetted five other union officials who have been elected or nominated to state offices.

The Constitution of Kenya bars state officers from holding any other gainful employment.

On Sunday, Sossion revealed the government was behind the call of him to vacate office, so that they can bring up weak leaders who cannot fight for teachers rights.
