Uhuru Makes Keys changes in KDF, extends General Mwathethe’s term

President Uhuru Kenyatta extends General Samson Mwathethe's term in office

On Monday, President Uhuru Kenyatta extended the term of service for the Chief of Defence Forces (KDF) General Samson Jefwa Mwathethe by one year.

According to a statement sent to newsrooms from the Ministry of Defence, Mwathethe’s term in office is effective May 6, 2019.

“His Excellency Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta , President of Republic of Kenya and the commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, on the advice of the Defence council, has extended the term of service for the Chief if Defence Forces General Samson Jefwa Mwathethe for one year effective 6th May 2019” reads Part of the statement.

Kenya Defence Forces Act 2012.

Mwathethe, took over from retired Chief of Defence Forces Julius Karangi in April 2015 for a single four-year tenure as outlined in the Kenya Defence Forces Act 2012. His four-year term in office as the Chief of Defence Forces ended last month.

The Statement also indicates that President Kenyatta upheld recommendations by the Defence council chaired by Defence Cabinet Secretary Amb. Raychelle Omamo confirming new promotions, appointments and postings.

Those promoted by the Head of State include;

1.      Major Genral Adan Kanchoro Mulata- Promoted to Lieutenant General and appointed commandant National Defence college

2.     Brigadier Joseph Mutui Kivunzi- Promoted to Major Genral and appointed officer commanding western command.

3.     Brigadier Jonah Maina Mwangi- Promoted to Mojar General and appointed Assistant Chief of Defence Forces operations, Doctrine and Training.
