Blogger Robert Alai was on Fridaty afternoon and is expected to spend the night in state custody after allegedly making a misleading statement regarding the coronavirus epidemic.

Alai was summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to appear at the agency's Kiambu Road Headquarters.

According to his friend and colleague Dennis Itumbi, Alai was later arrested after appearing at DCI and wil spend the weekend at Muthaiga Police Station.

The blogger has been making a number of alarming claims regarding the spread of coronavirus in the country.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has warned Kenyans and players in the media sector to desist from spreading false information that may cause panic and sabotage the government's effort to fight the deadly virus.

Kagwe had on Thursday threatened that anyone publishing fake news on #coronaInkenya would be arrested and taken to Mbagathi where those who tested positive are held to 'report accurately' from the facility.
