Robert Alai arrested, to spend weekend in police custody
He is alleged to have made a misleading post on coronavirus epidemic
Alai was summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to appear at the agency's Kiambu Road Headquarters.
According to his friend and colleague Dennis Itumbi, Alai was later arrested after appearing at DCI and wil spend the weekend at Muthaiga Police Station.
The blogger has been making a number of alarming claims regarding the spread of coronavirus in the country.
On Thursday, he claimed a patient who had been evacuated from Lamu had tested positive for coronavirus even as the government insisted that there have been no positive cases of the disease in the past 48 hours.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has warned Kenyans and players in the media sector to desist from spreading false information that may cause panic and sabotage the government's effort to fight the deadly virus.
Kagwe had on Thursday threatened that anyone publishing fake news on #coronaInkenya would be arrested and taken to Mbagathi where those who tested positive are held to 'report accurately' from the facility.
