The Moi University student identified as Salad Tari Gufu surrendered himself to the police and is being held at Huruma Police Station.

Mr Gufu went to the police after his photo was circulated as one of the wanted Al Shabaab militants. He told the security men that he was not a terrorist.

The student first responded to police on Facebook after he was advertised as one the deadly terrorists being hunted down.

"As a citizen and a student, am being suspected for a crime that I am not even capable of. My friends know me and attest to my innocence. I therefore encourage you all to spread this message of truth).. SALAD WASN'T, ISN'T AND WON'T BE A TERRORIST,”  he posted on Facebook.

Gufu was among four others who are on the most wanted list. They include: Abdikadir Mohamed aka Ikrima, Mohammed Tajir Ali, Suleiman Irungu Mwangi and Gufu Tari Gufu (Salad's brother).

UPDATE:

The Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) officers took him away for further interrogation.
