Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and his estranged Education CEC Janet Muthoni Ouko on Wednesday engaged in a public exchange over her resignation.

The outgoing Education minister prompted the governor to issue a press statement on her resignation after she claimed that the governor was incompetent to run the city.

Ouko had on Monday given an interview on Citizen TV where she claimed that her resignation was a result of poor leadership and working conditions at City Hall.

"It is not fine to have people living under fear of blackmail, EACC, arresting, locking up offices, its chaos..." she stated.

In another interview on K24 she added: "You know there are people who behave like when they appoint you to a position it means so much, it’s like they have married you, it’s like they have given birth to you. That’s not the situation. This is a job and the terms are very clear."

Sonko's Press Conference

Governor Sonko invited the press to explain why he had accepted the CEC's resignation and address media reports that painted him as an incompetent county boss.

"What I tell Janet is, this is 2019 and corruption will not be tolerated. Investigations are underway and we will identify those who conspired with fraudsters to steal billions of bursary funds," he stated.

The governor's statement further provoked Ms Ouko to address the media with a counter reaction.

"We have seen Mike Sonko ruining people's lives with false accusations while he pretends to be working for the people.

"Igathe also resigned for the same reasons, Sonko had inflated numbers on the price of roads and did not want to be corrected...the scandal he is accusing me of was actually a collusion between him a and MCAs.

"Sonko needs to be mature and he has a very low self-esteem, that is why he must put on public shows and tarnish people's names to get back at them for resigning," an angry Janet lamented on KTN News.
