Margret Kenyatta's promise to Obama's grandmother
Details of meeting convened between First lady Margaret Kenyatta and Mama Sarah Obama have emerged with the First lady promising to.
The first lady and Mama Sarah, who is the grandmother to former US President Barack Obama, discussed on how they would improve the livelihood of vulnerable communities.
“During their meeting, the two discussed their shared interest in improving the livelihood of vulnerable communities, especially children, and women,” part of the statement from State House read.
Mama Sarah founded Mama Sarah Obama Foundation (MSOF) a charitable organization, dedicated to helping orphans and poor families feed and educate their children.
She used her own resources and relentlessly worked with community leaders to meet the dire needs of these orphans. Her phenomenal work was recognised beyond the boundaries of Kogelo village.
On the other hand, in 2014, the First Lady launched Beyond Zero Campaign in January to help women and children in Kenya.
“I am deeply saddened by the fact that women and children in our country die from causes that can be avoided. It doesn’t have to be this way… This is why I am launching the ‘Beyond Zero Campaign’ which will bring prenatal and postnatal medical treatment to women and children in our country,” she said in 2014.
Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday awarded Mama Sarah Obama the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for her dedicated service to the poor.
