Elections in Kenya are decided in board rooms

The problem with Fred Matiang'i is he is a poor man - Mutahi Ngunyi analysis on 2022

Renowned political analyst Prof Mutahi Ngunyi on Sunday cast doom on the prospects of Interior CS Fred Mating’i succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2022 presidential election.

In his characteristic colorful analysis, Prof Ngunyi stated that the election process in Kenya is mostly decided through board rooms deals made by people with huge interests in the country’s wealth.

He stated that among the front runners, Matiang’i has little wealth to protect hence unlikely to be the choice of the board room decision makers.

Politics is not about trust, it is about interests and interests are material in nature. Matiang’i, is poor, to put it bluntly. He has no interests to protect.

William Ruto has interests which he will protect alongside those of others. Gideon Moi has interests to protect. Raila Odinga, although he is a poor prince, has interests to protect including those of others. A guy who has no wealth will not feature in those boardroom decisions,” Ngunyi stated.

He added that the Interior CS has no strong political roots, having worked in the NGO sector for most of his career until 2013 when he joined the Cabinet.

The political scientists said voters in Kenya have little choice on who becomes President as the establishment makes the decision and guides the country accordingly.
