DP Ruto speaks on Echesa's termination

Echesa was fired for the same reason he was hired

Deputy President William Ruto

Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday remarked that the explanation of former sports CS Rashid Echesa’s removal from office was a matter that could only be explained by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

During an interview on Citizen TV, when questioned, Ruto stated that the person in charge of firing Echesa had the right to do so without having to give the reason behind the decision.

“The same authority that hired him deserves to fire with or without any explanation,” stated the DP.

The embattled Echesa had on several occasions inquired about the reason to why he was kicked out of the cabinet.

Echesa on his part, had however claimed that his sacking was due to his support for the Deputy President.

“I am a victim of the 2022 succession politics. There are those who are uncomfortable with my closeness to (Dr) Ruto and they will do everything to separate us,” explained the former sports CS.

He further added that, “I am supporting Dr Ruto for 2022 because he got me out of ODM to support President Kenyatta in.”

Echesa attends function with Ruto

In March, the tough talking Echesa had made a low-key appearance during an event attended by Ruto.

He had accompanied the DP in Lurambi, Kakamega county where Ruto had announced a new partnership between One Acre Fund and the government that would see it increase the number of farmers under its assistance programme from 400,000 to one million in the next four years.
