Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday hit back against Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru over her claims that the country was not ready for another President from the Kikuyu or Kalenjin communities.

The DP took to Twitter where he said President Kenyatta was not elected to represent his community, but was elected on account of being the Jubilee Party Leader that has presence in 41 counties.

He also said President Kenyatta was given the position on account of his competence - even though he was succeeding President Mwai Kibaki who also hails from the Kikuyu community.

"We supported and voted for Uhuru to succeed Kibaki not b'cos of ethnicity but COMPETENCE. He is NOT leader of any ethnic community but that of JUBILEE ,the largest political party with Mca's,Mps and Gov's in 41 of 47 counties and President of kenya. Muwache kasumba ya ukabila pls," Ruto tweeted in reply to a newspaper article publishing Waiguru's views.

The Kirinyaga Governor had on Wednesday urged the Mt Kenya region to support a constitutional amendment that would expand the Executive.

She said the country was not ready to be led by another Kikuyu or Kalenjin - the two communities that have dominated the Presidency since independence.
