The American Embassy in Kenya has issued a terror warning to U.S citizens in Kenya.
A statement seen by Pulselive.co.ke indicated that foreigners could be targeted if they travel to Naivasha, Nanyuki, coastal region and Nairobi.
"Credible information indicates Westerners may be targeted by extremists in Nairobi, Naivasha, Nanyuki, and coastal areas of Kenya," the statement read in part.
"The U.S. Embassy reminds the public of the continued need for heightened vigilance throughout Kenya, especially in public spaces such as shopping malls, hotels, and places of worship," it added.
Caution
Westerners were advised to be cautious and aware of their surroundings. They were further asked for reports suspicious activities to authorities immediately.
The statement also advised foreigners to have their travel documents up to date and easily accessible.
This alert comes in the backdrop of the DusitD2 hotel complex terror attack which claimed 21 lives.
Border security
Kenya has been attacked severally by Al Shabaab terror group since it joined the war against terrorism in Somali, which is the home turf of the militant group.
The porous Kenyan-Somalia border jas also been attribute to the war against Shabaab, which is said to provide easy access in Kenya for the terrorist group.
Al-Shabaab has also managed to recruit young Kenyans into their organization. In the DusitD2 attack, one of the key terrorists was a Kenya whose father worked for the Kenyan army.
