Kibra MP Ken Okoth's body will not be flown to Kasipul Kabondo, Homa Bay County for the funeral service, ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has confirmed.
Mr Sifuna told reporters that logistics of flying the body to Gor Rateng' Secondary School had failed to work out making it impossible to execute.
Speaking at the Milimani Law Courts, he stated that the cremation would go on as was scheduled, after the service in Homa Bay.
Homa Bay is the birthplace of the late MP's mother, Mama Angeline Ongere, where she had wished her son would be buried.
Controversy around Ken Okoth's funeral
The new development is likely to cause uproar from some of the deceased legislator's family members who had already stated their wish to have the MP buried in his mother's home.
Okoth's paternal relatives had already stated that they would not attend the funeral service in Gor Rateng' owing to the fact that his mother had not invited them to make plans jointly.
They further accused Mama Anegline of violating Luo customs that dictate a son should be buried beside his father.
A woman who claims to have had an affair with the MP had also obtained orders to stop the funeral as she demanded to have the MP's only heir recognized.
Nairobi nominated MCA Anne Muthoni Thumbi claims that her 4-year-old son Jayden Baraka Okoth was the product of her relationship with the MP which begun in 2013.
