Reports indicated that the lady identified as Vivian Awour, was swept away by flash floods that occurred at Silanga area.
Michael Muchiri, who is the Kibra Sub-County Police Commander, noted that the deceased’s body had been recovered after the raging waters of a stream where her house was situated, destroyed it.
Earlier reports had indicated that two other people, who were children had lost their lives. Muchiri however pointed out that the claims were speculations.
“Initially there had been reports that two children had also been swept by the floods but we confirmed that it was speculation,” remarked Police Commander.
He further urged residents of the area to find higher grounds to avoid a similar occurrence.
One dead after flood wall collapses
In 2017, one person died and two people had been reported missing after they were swept away with floods following the collapse of a floodwall in Kibera.
The structure had been put up by Kenya Railways on the shore of a river stream to channel water away from a housing project.
The railway company had been responsible for a housing project under the Relocation Action Plan (RAP).
