The tanker which was heavily laden with diesel, crushed the vehicle in which the deceased was traveling, Punch reports.

According to eyewitness accounts, the crash ignited a huge fire which left the deceased scorched beyond recognition and properties worth millions were also reportedly destroyed in the inferno.

An eyewitness who identified himself simply as Yinka said:

“The articulated vehicle, which was filled with diesel, was coming from Eleiyele area and traveling towards Ologuneru hill. When the truck had difficulty dragging the tanker along the hill, the tanker detached from the truck and crushed the car driven by the dead woman.

“It also poured its content on the road and the fire was ignited, burning the woman, who was trapped in the car and other vehicles."

Yinka also disclosed that over five houses were razed in the fire outbreak, adding that the diesel which had poured out during the accident, flowed towards the Eleyele river which is reportedly 300 meters from the scene of the accident.

Amongst the destroyed property was a church, Save and Serve Ministry, which was reportedly rebuilt only recently after a section of it had been affected by construction work going on the Ologuneru road.

Punch reports that firefighters from the Oyo State Fire Service were called to the scene and did their best to put out the raging fire.

The Special Rescue Squad of the state police command as well as the Federal Road Safety Corps were present at the scene of the accident and ensured that order was maintained in the area.

It reportedly took the combined efforts of the Police, FRSC, and fire service to retrieve the charred remains of the deceased from the mangled car.
