Guard arraigned in court for flogging sex worker to a pulp

A 19-year-old security guard has been arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly torturing a sex worker.

The suspect, Muhammed Useni, was arraigned on charges of assault, occasioning grievous harm, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him and was granted bail in the sum of N20, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Earlier, the court heard that the accused committed the crime on February 28 at about 4:20 a.m., at Avalon in Lekki, Lagos.

The prosecuting Inspector, Philip Osijiale told the court that the accused had unlawfully assaulted one Miss Folashade Kolawole.

According to the reports, Useni flogged the complainant with a horse whip and inflicted serious injuries on her in the process.

The prosecutor revealed that Useni had accused Folashade of soliciting customers at his duty post after he had warned her to leave the spot.

“Useni claimed that he caught her there again with one of her numerous customers, which led to the whipping.”

Osijiale said that the offense contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

A three-year prison sentence is recommended for the offender if found guilty.

The case was adjourned until March 22.
