Salesman in court over alleged theft of employer’s N182,000

The accused, who was an employee of Omoniyi, diverted N182, 000 proceeds from sales he made for the company to his own personal use.

The accused, who resides at Ajegunle Area of Lagos, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing brought against her.

The prosecutor, Insp. Tony Elibeh, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 14, at No. 36 Adekoya St., Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos.

The prosecutor said that the accused, who was an employee of Omoniyi, diverted N182, 000 proceeds from sales he made for the company to his own personal use.

“When the complainant confronted the accused about the missing money, he denied stealing the money.

“The complainant reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested,’’ Elibeh said.

He said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Section 285 prescribes three years imprisonment for stealing.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Titus Abolarinwa, admitted the accused to N200, 000 bail, with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate adjourned the case until May 17 for mention.
