Four killed after customs officers open fire on car conveying bags of rice

Stray bullets fired by Nigerian Customs Officers have left four people dead in Ogun state.

Daily trust reports that the sad incident which took place at Kobape, along the Abeokuta/Sagamu road on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, caused heavy traffic jam along that axis for several hours.

According to the reports, several protesters have stormed the State Command of the NCS off Quarry road, Ibara over the incident.

Men of the Operation Mensah, a combined team of the Nigerian Army, Police, Navy, and NSCDC reportedly mounted security check to prevent entrance into the command premises as at 3.30pm today.

Daily Trust reports that the driver of the vehicle identified simply as Onila, who had been on his way to deliver rice in Sagamu, was hit by a stray bullet and died instantly.

Sporadic shots by the NCS operatives reportedly hit three other commuters who were rushed to the state hospital, Ijaiye.

Further reports reveal that the customs officers under the supervision of a senior official, Oga Ogunbiyi, stationed at the Kobape junction.

In the course of an argument, one of the officials began shooting sporadically, one of the bullets which hit the tire and caused the car to somersault instantly.

The driver who had been hit in the leg had been struggling out of the vehicle when he got hit by other bullets and died on the spot.
