In a statement jointly signed by the President of the Association, Tamar Tion and the Secretary, Sandra Efosa, the march which they tagged ‘Walking for Nigeria’, the body said their action is necessary as the government has refused to do something to ease the sufferings of the masses which have also affected their profession.

Calling on all its members to get ready for the march scheduled for Tuesday, February 14, 2017, the statement insisted that the national executive council of the union has mobilized its members across the nation to join in the march in the interest of their trade.

The statement reads in part:

“The National Association of Nigerian Prostitutes (NANP), has resolved to stage a protest march on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, to protest the insensitivity of the government of the day over the untold suffering Nigerians have been exposed to.

The recession is really biting hard on Nigerians and it has also affected our business. We are Nigerians too and we are struggling to make ends meet.

We are suffering and we feel it is time we also come out to the streets to let the government know our plights.

We campaign vigorously for this government like other Nigerians but what do we have in return? We have endured so much and it is time we let the government know that enough is enough.

We cannot fold our hands and watch our members suffer in silence. We are calling on all our members in all the states of Nigeria to get ready for the march to express our dissatisfaction with what is happening.”

It is left to be seen what effect of the commercial sex workers march will have on the government of the day.
