The Kenya Boxing President John Kameta has applauded a team which represented the country in the just concluded 2017 African Confederation Boxing Championships staged in Congo Brazzaville.

A team of 12 boxers were at the championships and returned home on Monday with five medals including one gold won by lightweight boxer Nick Okoth, who beat Reda Benbaziz of Algeria at the finals.

“Our players and coaches did their best to realize the good results. It is a good record owing to the fact that Okoth made it with a gold after a long period of time,” Kameta said.

Two of the 12 boxers were women; Elizabeth Akinyi (middleweight) and Christine Ongare, who won bronze medals.
